Mitchell Avenue, Jesmond
- Residential refurbishment and extension
We worked with our clients over a number of months assisting them to find a new family home following relocation from the South East. Their new home, situated in the heart of the Jesmond Dene Conservation area is this early 20th Century detached residence.
Following the conclusion of the house search, we were appointed to undertake a space optimisation and feasibility study of the house. The result of which was a planning application to add a compact, contemporary extension to the rear of the property. The extension, together with a sympathetic re-organisation of internal spaces, creates a spacious family home fit for modern life without sacrificing the classical proportions and elegance that attracted our client in the first instance.
Conceived as a pavillion-like intervention our proposals utilise an elegant combination of glazed brick with fine timber detailing paired with a substantial timber frame. The design complements the muted tones and quiet order of the existing property without resorting to a pastiche response.
